Fellowships

AMTA operates multiple prorgrams to help fund post-graduate research related to membrane technology. The application process is open to AMTA members who are full time students (which is free) and is competitively evaluated by an experienced assessment committee of experts. Most Fellowship programs open for applications in the Spring with Fellows being selected by late-spring early summer. Each Fellowship program may be have slightly different rules, objectives or eligibility requirements. Currently AMTA operates three different Fellowship programs.

AMTA established the $10,000 Ian C. Watson Fellowship for Membrane Advancement in honor of Ian Watson’s distinguished career dedicated to the beneficial application of membrane technology and his positive influence on both novice and seasoned membrane practitioners. Ian is a modern pioneer of membrane processes and served as AMTA’s first Executive Director.
Awarded jointly with the National Water Research Institute (NWRI) $10,000 fellowships are awarded annually to two graduate students at U.S. universities and colleges who are conducting research that advances membrane technologies in the water, wastewater or water reuse industries.
Reclamation fellowships of $10,000 are awarded annually to four graduate students at U.S. universities and colleges who are conducting research that advances membrane technologies in the water, wastewater or water reuse industries. AMTA has run the solicitation and selection process in cooperation with the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation since XXXX.
