Three Years of Operation at the Hemet Water Filtration Plant

The Hemet Water Filtration Plant (HWFP) was designed to operate at 98% recovery without a backwash recycling system at the plant. This was the first membrane water treatment plant in California to operate over 95% recovery and achieve 4 log disinfection credit for cryptosporidium. The excellent recovery was made possible by a unique tank design that included an isolated section for partial tank drains reducing the VCF. Over the first three years of operation, operators were able to increase the CIP interval from 1/month to 1/3-months, and the redundant train was operated as a duty train to increase the plant capacity from 10-mgd to 12 mgd.
