Side-by-Side Full-Scale Comparisoin of Disinfection Byproduct Control Conventional Versus Membrane Water Treatment

The City of Bowling Green Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was recently expanded with the addition of an Integrated Membrane Facility (IMF), consisting of microfiltration followed by reverse osmosis membrane treatment. The previously existing treatment consists of conventional ferric chloride chemical treatment, lime softening, multimedia filtration and granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption. The capacity of the conventional plant is 7.5 MGD and the installed IMF capacity is 3.0 MGD. The IMF is design for expansion to 6.0 MGD. Both treatment processes receive their raw water via separate gravity feed lines from a 168 MG reservoir which gets its input from the Maumee River.
