Paper focuses on several membrane-based treatment approaches that are aimed at achieving water recoveries greater than 90% to maximize yield while minimizing impacts from waste disposal. Technologies including reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, electrodialysis and electrodialysis metathesis were evaluated. The study confirms that selection of a suitable high recovery treatment approach is dependent on several specific variables, included feed water quality available brine disposal options, drivers to increase product recovery.
