This presentation will address how RO is a critical treatment process barrier for groundwater recharge injection projects, Surface Water Augmentation, and Direct Potable Reuse. RO is effective at removing microorganisms and organic chemicals (including Contaminants of Emerging Concern or CECs) that may pose a public health threat. There are specific minimum criteria that an RO membrane must meet. DPR will need multiple independent barriers and monitoring to ensure protection of public health. The treatment must be reliable, with adequate monitoring and treatment processes to respond immediately to a treatment failure. Monitoring is needed to ensure protection of public health, including, but not limited to, the identification of appropriate indicator and surrogate constituents.
