An industrial manufacturer in Southern California utilizes city water in its manufacturing and testing processes. In order to meet the water quality needs of manufacturing, the
potable water supply (with a total dissolved solids (TDS) varying from 400 to 500 parts per million (ppm)) was additionally treated at the manufacturing plant site using a fourstage RO system to reduce the TDS to better than 20 ppm while recovering 85% of the initial feed. Unfortunately, the facility encountered considerable scaling and fouling during normal operation.
