Pilot-Scale Comparison of Granular Media Filtration & UF Pretreatment Systems for Open Intake Seawater Desal

This paper describes the results of a pilot-scale study to optimize granular media filtration and ultrafiltration (UF) pretreatment systems in a reverse osmosis (RO) seawater desalination process and presents initial results that compare alternative pretreatment systems. The testing program includes three major activities water quality monitoring, pilot-scale pretreatment comparison and pilot-scale pretreatment comparison The data reflects the early stage of pilot testing, during which time they are still trouble-shooting operational issues.
