In early 2016, the City of Two Rivers, WI began looking at replacing the hollow-fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membranes at their 3.75 MGD drinking water plant. The UF system had been in operation since 2003/2004 and, since then, the membranes had been repaired often and replaced twice due to ongoing fiber breakage and air integrity test (AIT) failures. In mid-2017, the membranes on one the five trains at the plant were replaced with a UF membrane that was guaranteed to last at least 5 years without any of the 70,000 fibers breaking. Since that time, the new membranes have not had a broken fiber and have consistently met or exceeded the permeability and effluent turbidity of the existing membranes.
