Due to the increased popularity of potable reuse, demonstrated by the number of projects being implemented and proposed, the importance of membranes used in this application has risen. One of the biggest challenges to the application of any treatment technology in potable reuse applications is to demonstrate its effectiveness for pathogen removal, specifically for those regulated in drinking water, namely enteric virus and the protozoa Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
