The cold semi-arid climate of the Missouri Plateau of North Dakota adds several challenges for water and wastewater facilities in the region. Because of the region?s climate and physical geography, water treatment plant residual disposal is often restricted to deep well injection, evaporation ponds, or discharge back into source waters.
