In the past 10 years, several MF and UF modules have become available to System Integrators from manufacturers who only sell MF/UF modules, much the same procurement model as for RO elements. This is a new business model compared to previously when the System Integrators had their own proprietary MF/UF membranes. The MF/UF systems using these ‘non-proprietary’ modules are designed for either one type of module or more recently as open platform systems designed to use modules from several suppliers. This presentation will describe the physical and operational differences that must be considered for modules from a range of MF/UF suppliers, including some full-scale case studies, and how these differences can be incorporated into open platform/universal MF/UF systems.
