This presentation will discuss the Canton, OH MBR system as a case study for increasing capacity and performance using best available technology (BAT). MBR technology was selected based on the ability to meet tighter nitrogen and phosphorus effluent performance limits while also increasing the capacity from a design flow of 28 MGD and 42 MGD. Existing aeration basins were converted to MBR process trains and include anaerobic and anoxic zones for nitrogen and phosphorus removal. Plant capacity was increased by 50% without requiring additional tankage for treatment. The discussion will include an overview of MBR treatment, a summary of the options considered for Canton, OH, and a overview of design considerations and layout selected for advanced BNR removal.
