Thin film nanocomposites were developed for brackish water RO membranes in 2007. Since the release of these TFN membranes the technology has been developed for seawater RO. The use of this method on SWRO membranes can increase flux from the standard 17 gfd to 33 gfd. At an existing plant this will result in either 70% more water produced or a 20% energy savings.
