The SDWA was enacted in 1976 to protect the national drinking water supply and public health. Over the past fifty years, the regulatory process has addressed contaminants and provided the public with meaningful health protection. Although the industry is familiar with the actual regulations, many do not understand the regulatory process which can be lengthy, shrouded in dense language and arduous. These talks review the processes that are used to identify and drive drinking water regulations and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of our current processes. Future approaches are introduced and discussed.
