The City of Ventura, CA has taken a proactive approach to further advancing potable reuse as an alternative water supply, with the VenturaWaterPure Demonstration Facility serving as a critical component for demonstrating technical and regulatory feasibility and public acceptance. The demonstration facility included pasteurization, ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), and an advanced oxidation process to treat tertiary effluent from the Ventrua Water Reclamation Facility. The objectives of the VenturaWaterPure Demonstration Facility were, in part, to evaluate UF and RO treatment efficacy and develop full scale design criteria and assess brine quality and alternatives for treatment or disposal. This paper will provide the results of the UF and RO performance with and without pasteurization pretreatment from the demonstration facility.
