New membranes with lotrophic liquid crystal (LLC) polymers have superior performance for desalination. The LLC membrane has a more uniform pore distribution and an inherent resistance to chlorine and biological fouling The new membrane and plans for enhancement to reduce manufacturing cost are discussed.
