The water reuse industry has transitioned from proprietary microfiltration (MF) systems to MF systems designed by original equipment manufacturers (OEM) that can be adapted to operate a handful of membrane module types. These ?Universal? systems rely on OEMs to dictate generic operating parameters. West Basin has constructed its own pilot system to evaluate six different modules concurrently on a single feedwater while operating at separate or similar design conditions for a side-by-side comparison. The findings of this study will help advance the entire industry?s understanding of how to design and operate MF systems, illustrating that generic OEM designs are not ideal for water reuse because not all membranes will perform similarly.
