COMPARISON OF FOULING POTENTIAL AND CLEANING EFFICIENCY OF CERAMIC AND POLYMERIC MEMBRANES FOR WATER TREATMENT APPLICATIONS. In this study, constant flux experiments were conducted to quantify the fouling tendency and cleaning efficiency using a model feed water composition chosen to simulate surface water under the influence of wastewater. An alumina composite ceramic membrane and a polyethersulfone membrane were evaluated under similar hydrodynamic conditions to account for differences in module geometry and membrane permeance, which facilitates the scale-up of results from a laboratory scale module to a full scale module.
