This paper is a case study of the Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) in Orange County, California that provides potable water (local groundwater and imported), wastewater treatment for the production of recycled water, and natural treatment system to clean urban runoff. IRWD has several membrane treatment facilities that include the Deep Aquifer Treatment System (DATS)-Nanofiltration (NF), Irvine Desalter Primary Treatment Plant-Reverse Osmosis (RO), and Wells 21/22 Treatment Plant-Reverse Osmosis with construction of the Baker Water Treatment Plant-Microfiltration scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013.
