The City of Sanibel’s (City) Donax Water Reclamation Facility (Donax WRF) is a conventional activated sludge treatment plant with a permitted design capacity of 2.375 million gallons per day (MGD) on a maximum monthly average daily flow (MMADF) basis. It is the only active facility for wastewater treatment on Sanibel Island. The facility produces effluent that meets its regulatory requirement of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) criteria for public access reuse; it does not have a surface water discharge.
