The City replaced their obsolete pressure sand filtration water treatment plant with a new robust state of the art submerged membrane plant. Algae in the surface water source during the summer months correlated with high disinfection byproducts (DBP?s) in the distribution system. The new treatment facility included a rapid mix basin where 900 g mixing energy could be applied to blend the alum prior to a three-stage flocculation basin and membrane filtration.
