The Racine Water Utility implemented ultra-filtration membrane treatment in 2005. Piloting of 2 submerged membrane systems provided the basis for using full conventional surface water treatment prior to membrane filtration. This decision to provide high quality feed water to the membrane system has potentially extended membrane life, streamlined operations, allowed for optimization, and reduced operating costs. The presentation discusses the 14 successful years of ultra-filtration at the Utility.
