Industries such as the food industry and industrial laundries produce volumes of wastewater which require treatment for safe and responsible management. Membranes can be used to good advantage in industrial wastewater treatment, with the potential for producing high quality product water for discharge or for reuse. This paper will present several recent applications of ceramic and polymeric membranes in the treatment of industrial wastewater. The case studies will be reviewed for lessons learned, improving our understanding of the operating and design parameters that are critical to the success of these systems.
