MIT PRESSURES FOR MEMBRANES IN TERTIARY FILTER APPLICATIONS. Operations staff repaired the fibers using the new MIT pressure of 10.3 psi and resumed operation of the pilot plant. Water quality data improved dramatically. The membranes were able to remove Total P to below a monthly maximum of 0.04 mg/L, while existing sand filters removed Total P to less than 0.1 mg/L with comparable alum doses. Total Organic Carbon was also reduced and bacteriological analysis for Total, Fecal and Escherichia coliforms showed non-detectable results.
