Two recent membrane installations have shown two very different applications in two different regions with two types of membranes. This paper details lessons learned from the design, construction, and startup of two membrane systems, how they are similar, and how they differ. One is in the City of Bossier City, LA a new 25 MGD microfiltration plant to be operated in parallel with an existing facility. The other was for the City of Wichita, KS, a 30 MGD facility designed to remove excess surface water from the Little Arkansas River, treat it to drinking water standards, and recharge it into the local Equus Beds Aquifer. This treatment process involves sedimentation, strainers, submerged microfiltration membranes and an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP).
