The subject of this summary is the comparison between continuous and intermittent coagulant addition upstream of ultrafiltration membranes to remove organic compounds and thereby minimize the biological fouling of reverse osmosis membranes. In addition to the results of this
comparison, the paper presents a new type of measurement called the ?Coating index? that makes it possible to anticipate the clogging of a membrane in the presence of algae. This abstract should be added to the program as it presents ways to reduce running costs and as it introduces an original technique in predicting the membrane behavior during algae blooms and thus allow plant operators to anticipate plant production and cleaning of the membranes.
